In 1899, the legendary Sarah Bernhardt set her sights on an audacious new role: Hamlet. In Bernhardt/Hamlet, playwright Theresa Rebeck brings this daring true story to life with wit, passion, and theatrical flair. As Bernhardt takes on Shakespeare’s most tormented prince, questions of gender, power, and performance take center stage. Directed by local playwright Amy Wheeler and featuring an all-star cast, this staged reading is part of Whidbey Island Center for the Arts' New Works June festival. A bold, captivating exploration of one woman’s quest to redefine the stage.
