CELEBRATION OF DANCE 2024

Body, action, space, time, energy, and music. These are the elements of a good dance performance, where it all comes together in a beautiful synergy of movement to tell a story, evoke emotion, and take one’s breath away. The dancers and guests of Whidbey Island Dance Theatre Company (WIDT) bring all of it to their annual Celebration of Dance concert at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 3 and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4.

Guest performing artists include Meander Dance Collective, Backstage Dance Foundation, Robbi Moore, and Sierra Muller, joining the company to present the full spectrum of dance styles in 14 original pieces, including jazz, contemporary, tap, hip-hop, lyrical, modern ballet, and an aerialist silks performance. Artistic Directors Jamee Pitts and Mark Thrapp encourage WIDT dancers to stretch the bounds of their talent by welcoming exciting choreographers from Seattle, Los Angeles, and beyond to keep it fresh and innovative, stimulating, and entertaining for Whidbey Island audiences. LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Whidbey Island Center for the Arts would like to begin by acknowledging that we gather on the ancestral homelands, originally known as Tscha-kole-chy (SHA-KOL-CHI) in Lushootseed (LU-SHOOT-SEED), of the Coastal Salish Peoples, on the lands of the lower Skagit, Tulalip (tuh·lay·luhp), Swinomish (SWIN-ə-mish), Snohomish (snō-hō-mish), Stillaguamish (still-uh-GWAH-mish), and Suquamish (soo-kwah-mish), who have lived in the Salish Sea basin since time immemorial and have hunted, fished, gathered, and taken care of these lands.

We respect their sovereignty, their right to self-determination, and we honor their sacred spiritual connection with the land and water.
