  • Whidbey Island Center for the Arts PO Box 52 | 565 Camano Avenue Langley, WA 98260 (map)

Sandy Rubini-Rochon, a Fine Art Textile Sculptor, will have an exhibition of her work in the Kristin and Earl Lasher Gallery at the Whidbey Island Center for the Arts (WICA) during the months of March and April 2024. WICA is located at 565 Camano Avenue, Langley, WA 98260. A reception will be held on Saturday, March 23rd from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Crackers and wine will be offered to everyone who attends this free event.

About the Artist: In 2015, Sandy visited a room-sized, interactive, free-style weaving exhibit at the Bellevue Art Museum that encouraged guests to participate.  “I was absolutely charmed,” she says, “and immediately started to collect repurposed materials to make my own version.”

Sandy’s Fine Art Textile Wall Sculptures are first and foremost nature-based, evoking the changing of seasons and natural environments.  They begin with the “bones” of the piece – driftwood and jute for the frame. These elements set the tone for the entire piece. From there the free-style weave takes on a life of its own, as she intuitively chooses the colors and variations that speak to her in the moment.  The end result is much like an abstract painting.  She names each one, based on recent experiences, memories and the emotions they evoke.

Sandy has shown her Textile Sculptures in local galleries and at the Rochon Fine Art Gallery in Clinton, a space she shares with her husband, Fine Art Abstract Painter, Louie Rochon. She has installations throughout Washington State, Seattle, Portland and Phoenix.
