Come out to see top talent from Seattle International Comedy Competition! Past champion Darryl Lenox will return from New York to headline this special event on Martin Luther King, Jr., weekend.
ABOUT DARRYL LENOX
“I think I can make you laugh at stuff you had no idea you thought was funny.” Comedian Darryl Lenox had reached a point in his life where he was tired of waiting - waiting for television networks to call, waiting for bigger shows to happen, and waiting to dig deep and reach a new level of honesty with himself and his audiences. So he made up his mind to put everything he had into shooting his own hour-long special and releasing it to the world.
The world has certainly responded. StarzNetworks immediately picked up the special, making "Darryl Lenox: Blind Ambition" the first hour-long standup special ever to appear on the network. The positive reviews of his special and accompanying album soon followed. Stagetime Magazine named his CD, "Blind Ambition," “one of the Top 5 Comedy Albums of 2012,” joining Louis CK, Reggie Watts, Tig Notaro, and the late Patrice O’Neal. He soon was invited to appear on "Conan" and was interviewed by Marc Maron on an episode of Maron’s hugely popular WTF podcast - both to rave reviews.
The title, "Blind Ambition," is fitting, as anyone who has experienced Lenox’s insightful comedy knows that he hasn’t let his visual impairment stand in the way of his becoming one of the most popular comedians around. The content goes deep, drawing on a risky eye surgery.
“The risk we had to take to do my major eye surgery - the one that could have left me totally blind - it propelled me to take the risk on Blind Ambition,” Lenox explains. “The doctor that performed the surgery is my hero - it was incredibly inspiring. I knew after that experience that my days of waiting on people were over.”
Lenox compares his show to a roller-coaster ride - full of ups and downs, tension and release. Living with a visual impairment has refined his perspective, allowing him to cut through audience preconceptions, discard self-pity, and deliver pitch-perfect repartee that leave audiences spellbound and sore from laughter. People are clearly getting it and clamoring for more, and the reviewers are eagerly spreading the word:
Comedy reviewer Chris Milea took note of that very thing in a review of Blind Ambition, writing, “While introspection-inducing big picture stuff is certainly brought, it must be clear: Lenox is so remarkable in transition and planning that this set is loaded with jokes!”
Critic Ed Placencia recently reviewed Blind Ambition and wrote, “In a world of Michael Bay-style stand-up comics who rely on explosions and CGI, it’s nice to find a Woody Allen who is more concerned with composition and character.”
Prior to his debut on Starz, Darryl has been seen on A&E’s “Evening at the Improv,” BET’s “Comic View,” “Best of BET’s Comic View Special,” “Best of Just for Laugh’s Comedy Festival New Year’s Eve Special,” Comedy Central’s “Jamie Foxx’s Laffa Polooza,” and Comedy Central’s “Live at Gotham.” He has performed at numerous comedy festivals including Montreal’s JFL, HBO Comedy Arts Festival, Boston Comedy Festival, Chicago Festival, Vancouver Comedy Festival, and he’s received such notable titles as Winner of Seattle Comedy Competition and Winner of Best New Play at Vancouver Fringe Festival.

Join us in Zech Hall one hour before the performance for BrewHaHa featuring Diamond Knot Brewery's Ho!Ho! Winter Ale
Ah, the wondrous wares that are winter warmers. This particular one is your humble Brewmaster’s very favorite Diamond Knot beer! As a fledgling homebrewer his favorite thing to brew was a giant, spiced holiday ale that was almost always met with great appreciation. As a result the Ho!Ho! was the first DK beer that he really took under his proverbial wing and made his own. No spices in this one, just malt, yeast, hops, and water.
This beer kind of defies being plopped conveniently into an accepted beer category: it’s big, dark, malty, hoppy and will seriously warm your cockles! Enjoy it while it’s around as this seasonal is produced in limited quantities and you don’t want to have to wait ‘til next Christmas!
The nitty-gritty, for all you beer nerds:
Original Gravity: 17 ° Plato; 1.068
Alcohol by Volume: 8.5%
MALTS: 2-row Pale, Flaked Barley, Munich, Vienna, Caramel Malt 80L, Chocolate Malt
HOPS: Galena and Chinook
